- ➤ An animal rescue in Tarentum installed a 24/7 microchip scanner outside its rescue house on East Sixth Avenue to help reunite lost pets with their owners — the scanner links chips to a nationwide registry. - ➤ A 5K race was held in Canonsburg on September 14 by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (with about 650 participants) to raise nearly $100,000 for veterans and gold star families. Ninety-six percent of the money helped pay off mortgages and fund smart home upgrades for those in need. WPXI
- ➤ Leaders from the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank report that nearly 320,000 neighbors are food insecure and local food lines are growing higher than during the pandemic's peak. They will boost services and modernize distribution ahead of the WTAE Project Hunger Day Of Giving on September 18th—an effort aimed at helping families and supporting local farmers amid federal funding cuts. - ➤ On September 13, student volunteers in Oakland joined the Pittsburgh Garbage Olympics and filled 138 trash bags. Oakland placed second with 101 participants—highlighting efforts to educate students on proper trash disposal. The Pitt News
