- ➤ Catholics in Pittsburgh gathered at St. Patrick Cathedral to give thanks after electing their new leader, Pope Leo XIV. He is 69 and the first pope under 70 since 1978—church leaders and community members hope his American background will bring fresh energy to the ministry. WTAE
- ➤ Light of Life Rescue Mission opened a free hair salon at Ridge Recovery Place in partnership with Geno Levi Salon (offering haircuts by appointment to program participants) to help people feel confident. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pittsburgh International Airport officials previewed the almost complete three-level landside terminal on Tuesday—construction began in October 2021 and the $1.7 billion project is about 90% finished as testing continues ahead of its fall opening, featuring design elements inspired by local hills and forests. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Allegheny Health Network has announced a $43 million, 36,000 square-foot renovation at Allegheny General Hospital that will add 57 treatment rooms and improve patient care with new waiting and triage areas. The project will relocate the entrance and security station and later upgrade trauma and imaging rooms — the first phase is set to begin this fall with the entire work to be completed by the end of 2027.
