About this event
Title: Driving Measurable Value Through Owner Focused I nnovationAbstract: Digital transformation in the built environment is increasingly defined not by technology adoption alone, but by the ability to demonstrate measurable value. AI, openBIM, VDC, digital twins, Lea n practices, and performance metrics are becoming more closely connected as organizations seek better project, asset, and business outcomes. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in openBIM and digital innovation, including owner-focused initiatives across 30 countries, Dr. Calvin Kam will explore how governments, owners, and industry organizations can translate emerging technologies, open standards, and mandates into practical implementation strategies and measurable results. Building on his work as Founder and CEO of Strategic Building Innovation, his work with buildingSMART International on Global openBIM Mandates and openBIM Business Value, and research associated with Stanford University's Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), the presentation will examine how frameworks such as the VDC Scorecard can help organizations connect information requirements, quality controls, technology adoption, KPIs , and performance with broader business value. Looking forward, the session will explore how AI, openBIM, and VDC can increasingly enable digital twins, GIS, IoT, sustainability, and decarbonization - cr eating a stronger foundation for informed decision-making, smarter mandates, and improved whole-lifecycle performance across the built environment. Bio: Dr. Calvin Kam is Founder and CEO of Strategic Buildin g Innovation and Strategic Green Innovation - the "GPS Navigator" for any enterprise charting a course for construction innovation while optimizing the value of built assets. Dr. Kam serves as the Chapter President of buildingSMART Chapter in the United States and an Executive of buildingSMART International's Compliance Program. He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from Stanford University in Design/Construction Integration and Construction Engineering and Management. As an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University's Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE) and a Co-Founder of GSA's National BIM Program, Dr. Kam advises built asset owners globally on strategic innovation, including customized AI applications and digitalized construction management leveraging openBIM/GIS global standards. Dr. Kam has advised public agencies in APEC, Finland, Hong Kong China, Norway, UAE, U.K., U.S., and Singapore on AI, di gitalization, innovation, open standards, productivity, value chain, and management science. Elevated as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects as well as buildingSMART International, Dr. Kam has given keynotes and lectures in over 30 countries and has been published in industry handbooks, APEC official publications, journals, and conference p apers. Abstract:
Digital transformation in the built environment is increasingly defined not by technology adoption alone, but by the ability to demonstrate measurable value. AI, openBIM, VDC, digital twins, Lean pra ctices, and performance metrics are becoming more closely connected as organizations seek better project, asset, and business outcomes.
Building on his work as Founder and CEO of Strategic Building Innovation, his work with buildingSMART International on Global openBIM Mandates and openBIM Business Value, and research associated with Stanford University's Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), the presentation will examine how frameworks such as the VDC Scorecard can help organizations connect information requirements, quality controls, technology adoption, KPIs, and performance with broader business value.
Looking forward, the session will explore how AI, openBIM, and VDC can increas ingly enable digital twins, GIS, IoT, sustainability, and decarboniza tion - creating a stronger foundation for informed decision-making , smarter mandates, and improved whole-lifecycle performance across the built environment.
