About this event

@

From the visionary science fiction of Octavia Butler, to the music and mythology of Sun Ra and Parliament Funkadelic, to the thrills of Marvel’s Black Panther , Afrofuturism imagines and explores the meeting point of sci fi and technology with African diaspora cultures. Tonight, join Pitt professor and poet Gary Jackson for a fascinating tour of the richly imagined worlds of Afrofuturism!

Gary Jackson is the Director of the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics at the University of Pittsburgh. He is the co-editor of the book The Future of Black: Afrofuturism, Black Comics, and Superhero Poetry (Blair, 2021).
