  • Starting in May, Aer Lingus will offer a nonstop flight from Pittsburgh to Dublin. The new service follows a partnership among the state, Pittsburgh International Airport and VisitPITTSBURGH and lets travelers complete U.S. customs in Dublin before connecting to flights.  WTAE
  • Local business owners met with NFL + VisitPITTSBURGH representatives on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at CCAA Forester Student Services Center to learn how to work with league partners ahead of the 2026 draft, with the event expected to draw 500,000 to 700,000 visitors around the North Shore + Acrisure Stadium.  NEXTpittsburgh

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pittsburgh Public Schools released its enrollment report on Oct. 1 showing a drop from 18,312 to 17,937 K–12 students and a 1.27% rise in early childhood enrollment—district officials said the 10-year trend underscores early steps to rebuild family trust.  WPXI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Swissvale residents have not had recycling picked up for three weeks after the borough reported three of four trucks are broken, leaving residents to set bins or drop off recycling at Construction Junction; the borough expects service to resume next week and plans to buy new trucks next year.  WTAE

HEALTH NEWS

  • A U.S. News & World Report list for 2026 recognized several local hospitals for top-quality maternity care. UPMC Magee-Womens (Pittsburgh), Independence Health’s Westmoreland (Greensburg), and WVU Medicine University Hospitals (Morgantown) were named based on hospital-submitted data on labor, delivery, and newborn outcomes; the list was published on Dec. 11, 2025.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh-area woman Leah Taylor celebrates the 10th anniversary of her kidney transplant as she embarks on a Disney cruise with her family. She received a matching kidney three days after Christmas 2015 — a milestone that shows the life-saving impact of organ donation.  CBS Pittsburgh

  • Pitt volleyball defeated Minnesota in straight sets (25-16, 25-24, 25-22) Thursday night, earning its eighth win and a berth in the Elite Eight. The Panthers will face Purdue tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in the Regional Final at the Petersen Events Center.  The Pitt News
  • Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt is being evaluated at a hospital after feeling lung discomfort during Wednesday’s practice at the team facility. He missed Thursday’s practice and his status for Monday’s game against Miami remains uncertain as further details are expected from team officials.  WTAE
  • Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf said he is fine after a stomach injury he received in Baltimore on Sunday—he practiced fully on Thursday. Coach Mike Tomlin said Metcalf might be limited this week but is expected to play against the Dolphins on Monday.  PennLive
  • The Steelers released running back Trey Sermon from their practice squad today to create roster space amid injuries (Broderick Jones, Calvin Anderson, and Andrus Peat) and to bolster team depth.  PennLive
  • The Steelers placed offensive tackle Calvin Anderson on injured reserve after he suffered a knee injury in practice last week — his absence will reduce the team's depth as they prepare for Monday Night Football against the Miami Dolphins.  PennLive
