  • After serving the community for 90 years, Grant Bar & Restaurant in Millvale closed its doors on Saturday as final guests reserved a last visit, and local officials recalled its role as a longtime gathering spot.   • WTAE's Project Bundle-Up Telethon will be held Friday, Dec. 5 to mark its 40th anniversary and raise funds to provide winter clothing for children and seniors in Western Pennsylvania—partners plan to offer shopping trips and vouchers to help over 5000 residents stay warm this winter. The event continues a long tradition of community support and is part of ongoing efforts to meet increasing local needs.  WTAE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • American Signature Inc.—the parent of the Value City Furniture chain with four Pittsburgh stores—filed for Chapter 11 protection on November 30 and is seeking a buyer through a court-supervised process that plans a competitive auction within 45 days. The company expects to enter into a stalking horse asset purchase agreement to sell most of its assets and assume related liabilities.  WPXI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission announced that starting in December, Western Pennsylvania residents will see higher electric bills as supply charges rise—Duquesne Light will increase its rate from 12.42 to 13.75 cents per kilowatt-hour and West Penn Power from 10.32 to 10.95 cents. Utility companies explained that the changes are driven by higher auction prices for energy.  The Tribune-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • Allegheny Health Network performed its 1,000th robotic-assisted lung Ion biopsy (using the Ion by Intuitive system) to help find lung cancer earlier. The milestone shows the hospital's strong push for new technology in better patient care.  WPXI

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers have declared Darius Slay healthy inactive this week against the Bills after benching him in favor of James Pierre—cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. moved from the practice squad; Slay’s struggles on his one-year, $10 million contract led to the decision.  PennLive
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers got a reprieve after the Bengals upset the Ravens on Thursday night. They must beat the strong Buffalo Bills on Sunday to keep their AFC North title hopes alive.  WPXI
  • The Steelers will be without five players for their game against the Bills as Darius Slay is a healthy scratch, Derrick Harmon is out with a knee injury, and Scotty Miller remains inactive. Yahya Black will start + Brodric Martin-Rhodes will play nose tackle + Will Howard will serve as the emergency quarterback.  PennLive
  • The Steelers will change their offense to protect Aaron Rodgers’ injured wrist by using a shotgun and a new pistol formation in the upcoming game against the Bills. Coach Mike Tomlin said Rodgers took extra reps this week—boosting the team's confidence in his ability to play safely.  PennLive
  • On Saturday, Penguins social media posted a video featuring Kyle Dubas and Pittsburgh’s next mayor Corey O'Connor, who joked about their looks and roles while making it clear that Dubas is not the one to call about potholes & O'Connor is not the one to call about power plays.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • Pitt volleyball secured the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA tournament — marking their third straight season in the postseason — and will compete in the tournament later this season.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Steelers left tackle Broderick Jones was ruled out for the rest of the season after he suffered a neck injury during a game against the Bears — further tests confirmed the injury was more serious than first thought.
