COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pittsburgh Brewing Company will host its third annual Light Up Night in East Deer on December 5 with an expected 1500 guests. The event will feature live entertainment, food trucks, holiday activities and a tree lighting at 6 p.m. — the brewery said it will use an outside parking company to manage traffic.  The Tribune-Review
  • On November 25, Steelers, Penguins and Pirates teamed up with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Sheetz and Giant Eagle to hand out over 350 Thanksgiving meals to families outside PNC Park (Mazeroski Way) despite the cold, rainy North Shore weather. Players and mascots greeted neighbors as the event helped ease food insecurity in the region.  CBS Pittsburgh

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bank of America opened its new South Side financial center on November 24—adding to a total of 14 locations in Pittsburgh as the bank prepared for the holiday season.  WPXI
  • Giant Eagle and Market District stores will be open until 3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day while the Market District Express in McMurray remains open until 3 p.m. and the Express in Harmar follows normal hours—however, all Giant Eagle Pharmacy locations will be closed on Thanksgiving.  WTAE
  • Pittsburgh International Airport ranked 9th for on-time departures with 85% of 18,500 flights leaving as scheduled from August 2024 to July 2025 — it ranked 22nd for arrivals with 81% on-time performance. Airport spokesperson Bob Kulick advises travelers to arrive two hours early as the Thanksgiving travel period is expected to see a 10% increase in activity.  WTAE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Pittsburgh’s 23rd Annual Gingerbread Display and Competition is open with nearly 400 entries from local schools, families, and professionals — 18 awards were presented on Nov. 21 — and gingerbread houses are on display in the City-County Building lobby until Dec. 31 while online voting for the People’s Choice Award remains open.  WPXI

FINANCE NEWS

  • On Monday night, a Cash 5 ticket (with numbers 8, 11, 17, 19, and 37) sold at Mt. Pleasant Express on West Main Street in Mount Pleasant hit a jackpot of $450,000. Winners are advised to sign the back of the ticket and contact the Lottery at 1-800-692-7481 within one year to claim their prize.  KDKA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officials at Pittsburgh International announced that 300,000 passengers are expected in the new terminal during the Thanksgiving holiday week and urged travelers to arrive two hours early for domestic flights. They said Wednesday and Sunday mornings will be the busiest, while lighter traffic is expected on Thanksgiving and after—extra staff will help manage parking and terminal operations amid rainy early conditions and colder weather later.  KDKA
  • Crews will close some ramps on Fort Duquesne Bridge this week to repair the deck and barriers—motorists should plan alternate routes during the work.  WPXI
  • PRT's temporary light rail route through Allentown drew mixed reactions from residents and business owners, with some saying it makes travel easier and others noting safety concerns and vibrations. The agency will survey riders after Thanksgiving to decide if the service will become permanent—cost and ADA issues may affect the plan.  PublicSource

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers ruled out left tackle Broderick Jones for their game against the Bills after he suffered a neck injury while blocking a Bears defender—veteran Calvin Anderson has stepped in—and his long-term recovery is uncertain.  PennLive
  • Former Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward was named a modern-era semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2026 on November 25 and is one of 26 semifinalists to be trimmed to 15 finalists by the end of 2025—NFL Honors will announce the final class on Feb. 5.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • Former Steelers linebacker James Harrison criticized the team’s defensive scheme as trash after their 31-28 loss to the Bears—linebacker Patrick Queen also noted that poor schematics hindered player effectiveness. The comments come as the team adjusts tactics to fix its defensive issues for future games.  PennLive
  • Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said star wide receiver DK Metcalf will be limited in practice today due to an ankle injury he sustained against the Bears (this could shift more work to Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin III ahead of his game against the Bills).  PennLive
