EDUCATION NEWS

  • Artist Jordan Millington Liquorice gathered third graders at Bakery Square's Portal Art Gallery to explore art through photography. The students received cameras to capture images of vintage toys, and their photos were developed and returned as keepsakes + mementos of the creative session.  WTAE
  • Parents gathered at a packed meeting Monday to urge Pittsburgh Public Schools board to vote against closing nine school buildings under the Future-Ready Facilities Plan — warning that the rushed plan would lead to crowded classrooms and limited access in urban areas. The board will vote Tuesday, and if the plan is approved, the closures will take effect next summer.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • Carnegie Elementary (301 Franklin Ave.) in Carlynton will start a less than $15.2 million renovation in May to fix aging systems, update security, improve accessibility, and add key learning spaces, with work planned in phases through the 2026-27 school year and final completion in July. HEALTH NEWS

  • Independence Health System’s hospitals, physician groups and over 7,000 employees will merge with WVU Health System in fall 2026 to expand care across 10 counties. SPORTS NEWS

  • NFL commentator Kay Adams said the trade of former Steelers receiver George Pickens is one of the worst deals in NFL history—she pointed to his 146-yard game in a comeback win over the Eagles on Nov 23. Pickens, now with the Dallas Cowboys and having passed 1000 yards, remains a key playmaker as the team rides its winning streak.  PennLive
  • The Steelers made a key change today by naming James Pierre as the starting cornerback—reversing plans to start Darius Slay—according to coach Mike Tomlin. Pierre impressed with his performance against the Bengals and is expected to remain in the role if he stays healthy.  PennLive
  • Steelers linebacker Patrick Queen said the defense showed schematic and communication problems that let Bears quarterback Caleb Williams work quickly and effectively, leaving teammates struggling to cover routes in a 31-28 loss — a change from the usual two-high shell to a one-high look.  PennLive
  • Steelers coach Mike Tomlin expected his defense to do historic things, but the group has become a concern as it allowed 30 or more points in five games this season — it also gives up the most yards per game in his time. The team stands at 6 to 5 and will play the Bills soon — players say they have little time to fix mistakes before a key game in two weeks.  PennLive
  • The Penguins signed defenseman Peyton Kettles to a three-year entry-level contract on November 24th — he will miss six to seven months after his successful shoulder surgery.  WPXI
