- ➤ Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh launched Barks & Rec to let volunteers take shelter dogs on short field trips ahead of National Take a Hike Day on Nov. 17; the program is designed to reduce stress and boost adoption chances (children 10 and up may join with an adult). WPXI
- ➤ Glenn Nordmark, a 96-year-old scout from Pittsburgh, will receive the Silver Beaver Award this Saturday—recognizing his 86 years of service to Eagle Scouts and the community. He works with Meals on Wheels and AARP and will keep helping locals. CBS Pittsburgh
- ➤ Residents at Bernie's Mobile Home Park in Cabot have been without usable water since October due to high manganese levels and a water softener failure — they were advised on Oct. 16 not to use or boil water while waiting for lab results. - ➤ Pittsburgh’s Highmark Light Up Night will take place on Nov. 22 with the lighting of the 110th City Christmas Tree at the City-County Building’s portico as a 40-foot spruce is brought from Leslie Park; road closures on Grant Street with detours using Ross Street and Forbes Avenue will be in effect for the tree installation. The event will feature live music, fireworks, a light show, and a gingerbread display with handmade creations viewable until Dec. 31—celebrating a cherished local holiday tradition. WPXI

- ➤ A new Barnes and Noble over 10,000 square feet will open at Meridian on the 100 block of Shady Avenue in Shadyside, with a grand opening at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov 19 — the store will feature a ribbon-cutting and book signing with author Marie Benedict. WPXI
- ➤ The new Aldi store at 2515 Banksville Road in Banksville will open on Thursday, November 20, and will operate daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The first 100 shoppers will receive a gift bag on arrival—shoppers can also enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a $500 gift card. KDKA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pittsburgh International Airport will soon open a new landside terminal and parking area that features a five-story garage (with 33 electric charging stations on themed floors) where reserved parking costs $30 a day, along with a terminal lot offering 2,800 walkable spaces at $19 online and a shuttle lot served by eight compressed gas buses ensuring a ride in under 10 minutes. - ➤ The iconic fountain at Point State Park turned back on Thursday after crews fixed leaks, wiring, and conduit plus installed new LED lights as part of a $3.4 million project. The fountain will run daily through November and possibly December with shorter hours, and its fence will be removed on Friday. CBS Pittsburgh
- ➤ Sen. John Fetterman fell during an early morning walk near his Braddock home and was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for observation after a ventricular fibrillation flare-up made him lightheaded and caused him to hit his face—doctors are fine-tuning his medication regimen as he recovers. WTAE
