Good morning, Pittsburgh. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 10th of November.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership opened the first half of the redesigned Market Square, a $15 million project that adds 75% more space for pedestrians and modern features. Construction will shift to the north side starting Monday—only deliveries and emergency vehicles will use the road as the work continues until completion in April.  WTAE
  • In a Sunday interview, Chris Staud, founder of the Forgotten Flag Foundation, explained his group’s mission to raise patriotism by restoring flag displays and honoring veterans as Veterans Day nears tomorrow. He stressed the foundation works with local kids and remains politically neutral—focusing on community outreach and helping ensure no veteran or flag is forgotten.  WTAE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Commonwealth Charter Academy, the fastest-growing cyber charter school, holds board meetings that are hard for parents to join because they require emails and take place during work hours—only a few public comments were recorded in recent years. Former staff and parents say the school discourages input by dismissing criticism—raising concerns about transparency in its decision-making.  PennLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The $3 million renovation at Point State Park *is ahead of schedule* and will finish by the end of November. City crews are updating the fountain, installing new concrete, adding benches and replacing trash cans as they prepare the park for the NFL Draft in April.  CBS Pittsburgh

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today on For The Record, host Michelle Wright interviewed the president of Life Changing Service Dogs For Veterans and a Marine veteran who said his service dog eased his PTSD and helped him sleep better—offering new hope for his health challenges. The nonprofit raises funds so veterans can receive a service dog without the cost burden and improve their overall well-being.  WTAE
