  • Five local Pittsburgh bands have released new albums covering styles from Celtic tunes to hip-hop available on streaming platforms and vinyl.   • Carnegie Mellon University has set up a President’s Advisory Board on Student Well-Being, Mental Health and the Academic Experience to review how its services support students—its aim is to find ways to improve mental health and academic support. The board, co-chaired by John Dunkle and Laura Lee McIntyre, will share its recommendations once the review is complete—helping guide future changes.  The Tribune-Review

  • A lottery ticket sold at a Citgo truck stop in South Huntingdon won $1.2 million after matching all six numbers in the Match 6 Lotto drawing on Nov. 1 — the ticket holder has one year to claim the prize and the seller gets a $10,000 bonus.  WTAE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a failed motor controller caused the Monongahela Incline cars to stop about 40 feet from the station Saturday, Pittsburgh Regional Transit said repairs were made with crews replacing the drive on Monday (27 passengers were on board). Testing is ongoing and the incline will remain closed until it passes inspection by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, with shuttle vans and the 40-Mount Washington running on temporary schedules (shuttles every 15-20 minutes and the train every 40 minutes).  WTAE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Families facing rising food costs can stretch meals by cooking in batches and using extenders like rice or pasta—an approach that helps feed a family for under $10—while relying on store brands to keep expenses low.   • The Duquesne University men’s basketball team will start its season on Monday against Niagara at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.
