COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh awarded a $10K emergency grant to Jewish Family & Community Services to help families access kosher food after November SNAP benefits were not issued due to a federal shutdown. JFCS said the grant will let them expand hours and purchase more kosher food—meeting record high demand.  WPXI
  • A veteran service group — The Mission Continues — partnered with the Travis Manion Foundation to pack and distribute fresh food, pet food, free books and turkey coupons last Saturday at Spartan Community Center in Hazelwood to help local residents ahead of Veterans Day.  WPXI

  • An Allegheny County mail carrier was inducted into the Million Mile Club after he maintained an exceptional safe driving record, and he said safe driving comes from common sense and courtesy — a practice that highlights his reliable service.  WPXI

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pittsburgh Steelers switched to two-high coverages in their Nov. 2 game against the Colts—forcing six turnovers while limiting the Colts to 17 points and scoring 27. The defensive change gave Steelers fans renewed hope for the team’s season.  PennLive
  • On November 1, hundreds of skateboarders gathered on Herron Ave. in Polish Hill for the first Shred Till You're Dead skate event where they raced down the steep hill and competed for cash prizes from organizer Joe Conklin. Organizers set a ring of fire on the Herron Ave. bridge so a few skaters could jump through it—adding a dramatic twist to the day.  Pittsburgh City Paper
  • Steelers cornerback Darius Slay suffered a hand injury in the first quarter against the Colts and went to the blue medical tent before returning to the game — coach Mike Tomlin said the rotation changed after Echols played well.  PennLive
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without six players for their game against the Colts due to injuries and illness—safeties Jabrill Peppers and Chuck Clark, receiver Scotty Miller, linebacker Cole Holcomb, guard Andrus Peat and lineman Logan Lee are not playing. Coach Mike Tomlin moved Jalen Ramsey to safety to cover the gap—he is expected to be a key communicator on the field.  PennLive
  • Steelers guard Isaac Seumalo aggravated his pectoral injury he suffered last week against the Packers and did not return in the fourth quarter—his playing status remains uncertain. With Seumalo out, Spencer Anderson will start in his place—coach Mike Tomlin said the team is monitoring his recovery.  PennLive
  • Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin served two minutes in the penalty box on Saturday for a two-handed slash on Logan Stanley — the NHL Department of Player Safety later fined him for the incident.  WPXI
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers are elevating running backs Lew Nichols and Trey Sermon for their Colts game—Nichols, who shined in preseason and at Central Michigan, and Sermon, noted for his special teams work after being elevated twice before—to help fill the gap with only two healthy safeties active.  PennLive
  • Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf was fined $12,172 for poking Packers linebacker Quay Walker in the eye during the fourth quarter — the penalty changed a short play into a long one and ended Pittsburgh's drive.  PennLive
  • The Steelers hosted the Colts on Sunday, November 2 at 1 p.m. ET at Acrisure Stadium, and the game was broadcast on CBS — viewers could also stream it via free trial services including FuboTV, DirecTV, and Paramount Plus.
