  • On Saturday, lines formed at Spartan Community Center in Hazelwood as about 150 families came for its monthly food pantry that offered eggs, milk, frozen meat, vegetables, baked goods & pet food.   • An auto garage in Sheraden was damaged by an overnight fire on Hillsboro Street, with a crew arriving after the flames died down and finding part of its roof collapsed (no injuries were reported).  WPXI

  • Giant Eagle held a Penny Exchange Day on Saturday - 200 stores welcomed customers who brought over 100 million pennies to exchange for gift cards worth twice the coins’ value, handing out more than $2 million in rewards.  CBS Pittsburgh

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The US Open at Oakmont Country Club generated $288.8 million in economic impact across Pennsylvania with over $200 million coming from Allegheny County—supporting 1,476 jobs. The USGA reported that visitor spending reached $111.5 million and Oakmont will host future U.S. Opens while the organization returns in 2026 with the U.S. Amateur.  WPXI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania's fall turkey season began Saturday in 20 of the state's 22 Wildlife Management Units, and Game Commission officials expect hunters to face tougher conditions this season because there were fewer baby turkeys seen in a summer survey. Hunters must use shotguns with small shot or bows and follow health rules to lower bird flu risk & promptly tag and report any harvested turkeys.  WPXI
  • On Saturday at 9:00 a.m., thousands took part in a final stress test at the new Pittsburgh International Airport terminal using all 13 check-in counters and 11 TSA lanes. The airport authority will review the data to make corrections before the planned grand opening — aiming to ensure a smooth experience for future travelers.  WTAE

  • The Steelers ruled out safety Chuck Clark and linebacker Cole Holcomb due to illnesses ahead of their Colts clash—Holcomb missed practices while Malik Harrison was activated from injured reserve to cover his spot.
