- ➤ The Emma Munson Foundation gave away nearly 1,200 free Halloween costumes on October 31 in Braddock to honor 19-year-old Emma Munson who loved spreading joy. - ➤ A government shutdown ended SNAP food benefits and left many Pittsburgh residents unsure where their next meal will come from. The Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank reported a 30% rise in need—Giant Eagle also announced a $1 million donation to help food banks until benefits resume. KDKA

- ➤ On October 31st, local yinzer cemetery displays celebrated Halloween by showcasing Pittsburgh’s history in Dormont and Morningside. The Dormont display on Potomac Avenue recalled landmarks like Forbes Field and Three Rivers Stadium — while the Morningside display remembered local favorites such as a Burger King and Rite Aid. - ➤ PPS superintendent Dr. Walters presented a Future—Ready Facilities Plan that calls for closing 12 schools including Allegheny 6—8, Arsenal PreK—5 and Manchester PreK—8 to save costs with nearly $103 million expected from nine school closures. - ➤ Local middle and high school students attended the Build On event (held Thursday and Friday) at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center where industry professionals gave hands-on demonstrations in skilled trades and utility work. - ➤ The Steelers traded for former Patriots safety Kyle Dugger by receiving the Saints’ pick in exchange for their sixth-round selection (projected to drop about 20 spots) while taking on his salary for this season.
