GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Shapiro has a bill on his desk that would require schools to notify parents, guardians, and staff within 24 hours of a weapon being brought onto campus—SB246 passed both chambers with broad bipartisan support. The measure will add families to the current alert system that notifies police and the state Department of Education—lawmakers say it aims to boost transparency and safety.  KDKA

HEALTH NEWS

  • Crisis pregnancy centers in Pittsburgh offer free tests and counseling but face criticism for using religious messages and giving misleading health information to students and low-income adults.   • The David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh is turning into a free dental, hearing, and vision clinic where volunteers offer care with no appointment or insurance needed — it opens at 6 a.m. today and tomorrow and will run until capacity is reached.  KDKA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Aaron Rodgers, playing for the Steelers, may join an elite club if he leads Pittsburgh to a win over the Packers on Sunday. He would become only the sixth NFL player to defeat all 32 teams—his move from Green Bay to Pittsburgh has sparked a strong season for him.  PennLive
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers cannot trade for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick because an NFL rule prohibits reacquiring a traded player for two years. They may sign him as a free agent if they choose—this rule stops any trade deal.  PennLive
  • Bret Michaels will perform at the Steelers halftime show on Oct. 26 during NBC Sunday Night Football, and he will invite military personnel and diabetic fans on stage—he plans to record a live track during the brief break—for a special concert with the game kicking off at 8:20 p.m.  PennLive
