  • An animal-rights nonprofit filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in Allegheny County Common Pleas Court against the Zoological Society of Pittsburgh & the zoo head, asking for the elephants to be freed from captivity.  The Tribune-Review

  • Bridge City Brinery’s founder Mark Mammone saw his pickle recipes win Walmart’s Open Call Golden Ticket — they will be sold on Walmart shelves nationwide next year.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • EOS Energy will move its headquarters from New Jersey to Pittsburgh and invest $350 million to expand battery manufacturing in Allegheny County, which is expected to create over 730 new jobs and retain more than 260 roles, Governor Shapiro said. Company CEO Joe Mastrangelo added the move will boost grid resiliency and support Pennsylvania’s energy goals — strengthening the state’s role as an energy leader.  KDKA

  • Allegheny County’s '500 in 500' housing initiative beat its goal by providing new homes to hundreds of residents who lost housing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nathaniel Cornelious Jr. lost his sisters and his Carnegie apartment before receiving support from the program—showing how county aid is giving people a new start.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • The ongoing government shutdown means over 160,000 SNAP recipients in Allegheny County and more than 20 vendors at Lawrenceville Farmer’s Market will be hit when payments stop in November — local officials say this could risk jobs and local food access. State officials will notify SNAP recipients when benefits resume while local groups urge a swift resolution in Washington.  WPXI
  • Crews in Lawrenceville and Garfield raced against time to finish asphalt paving on Penn Avenue from the Doughboy statue to Bloomfield before the asphalt plants closed for winter—if the water and gas line repairs do not finish soon, the full restoration will be postponed until spring.  CBS Pittsburgh

  • The New York Jets cut former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Mark Robinson after signing him from the Patriots' practice squad. Robinson, who played 38 games for the Steelers — known for his special teams play — will now seek new opportunities.  PennLive
  • On Tuesday, the Penguins beat the Canucks 5-1 at PPG Paints Arena, with Sidney Crosby breaking the team record for most points by surpassing Mario Lemieux (combining regular and playoff points). Kris Letang also played a key role as the team made history in a commanding win.  WPXI
  • The Penguins are set to host Game 7 against the Canucks at PPG Paints Arena today — the team holds an 11-5-2 record in their last 17 contests with Vancouver and is 4-0-2 in their last six home matchups.  WPXI
