BUSINESS NEWS

  • Giant Eagle is offering customers a chance to earn a free turkey for Thanksgiving by spending $350 from today until Nov. 6 using a single Giant Eagle Loyalty Card—progress is tracked on receipts and the app, with the frozen turkey redeemable in a future transaction through Nov. 30. Customers can also donate the value of their turkey to local food banks—Giant Eagle will match donations up to $100,000.  WPXI
  • Morgan Lewis will move its Pittsburgh office from PPG Place to One PPG Place in mid-2027—keeping nearly the same square footage as its current space. The firm did not disclose the new space's exact size or lease terms.  WPXI

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Fourth Street Foods in Washington County will close its Speers Borough and Fallowfield Township plants on October 31, laying off 252 workers. Huntington National Bank has sued the company for defaulting on loans—while a class-action law firm investigates possible violations of federal warning laws that may hurt the local tax base.  CBS Pittsburgh

  • A lottery player in Allegheny County won a $620K jackpot on October 15 after buying a winning ticket (residents are urged to check their tickets frequently).  WPXI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pittsburgh officials reached an agreement to buy North Shore Riverfront Park from the Sports and Exhibition Authority for $1 and will soon enforce boat mooring rules to remove boats tied where prohibited so cruise ships can dock. Assistant public safety director Takeena White said police will patrol the riverfront and start with warnings, fines and towing—measures that will be refined soon—ensuring a clearer space for river traffic.  WTAE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Southwestern Pennsylvania cardiologists are reexamining beta-blocker use for uncomplicated heart attack patients after a study from Spain and Italy found no clear benefit — experts now advise patients to consult their doctors before making any changes. Dr. Amish Mehta at Jefferson Hospital said beta-blockers remain important during hospitalization, while future prescriptions will be tailored to individual needs.  The Tribune-Review

  • Roman Hladio of NEXT outlined a low-cost date night in the Strip District that starts with two sandwiches at the original Primanti Bros—costing about $25 with tip—followed by a stop at Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop and ending with a scenic sunset at the Terminal for a total of roughly $34.48.   • The Penguins lost to the Ducks 4–3 on Oct. 14 at the Honda Center after blowing a 2-goal lead—Parker Wotherspoon’s error on defense gave the Ducks a power play that let Chris Kreider score the game-winning goal.  WPXI
  • On October 15, Sidney Crosby recorded two assists in a 4—3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, with his 1,064th assist breaking the tie with Steve Yzerman for 9th all-time in assists.   • Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward said the rough field at Acrisure Stadium contributed to Miles Killebrew’s knee injury on a kickoff return, and Killebrew is expected to miss most or all of the season.
