  • On Saturday, Wholey's Seafood Market marked its 113th anniversary with an Under the Sea party—featuring live mermaids and a cooking class for classic seafood dishes.   • On Sept. 25, a Greene County resident checked his Match 6 lottery ticket and won a $1.05 million jackpot—officials confirmed the win.  WPXI

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The state Supreme Court ruled Pittsburgh's jock tax on nonresident athletes unconstitutional, and the city will immediately stop collecting the 3% fee, replacing it with a 1% income tax that recoups only a third of projected revenue. City officials said the tax, which once generated over $79 million, is now forcing urgent budget adjustments.  PennLive

  • Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Darius Slay went down with an undisclosed injury during the game against the Minnesota Vikings—he was replaced by James Pierre as trainers monitored his condition.  PennLive
  • After a bye week, Pitt jumped to a 17—0 lead on Saturday but faltered in the fourth quarter as Louisville rallied to win 34—27. Coach Pat Narduzzi said the team will assess its quarterback options ahead of next week's game against Boston College while Louisville improved to an undefeated record.  The Pitt News
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers have ruled out five players for their game against the Minnesota Vikings — including cornerback Joey Porter Jr., who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, and running back Jaylen Warren, who is dealing with a knee injury, while Alex Highsmith, Andrus Peat, and Esezi Otomewo are inactive with Nick Herbig set to start in place of Highsmith.  PennLive
  • On Saturday, Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein played well in the first half but threw two interceptions in the second half and was benched during a loss to Louisville—coach Pat Narduzzi maintained that Holstein will remain the starter for next week.  WPXI
  • The Vikings will elevate running back Cam Akers from their practice squad to the active roster for their upcoming game in Ireland against the Steelers—starter Aaron Jones suffered a hamstring injury two weeks ago. Akers, who has 2044 career rushing yards, will add depth to the team's rushing attack.  PennLive
  • The University of Pittsburgh wrestling team announced its 2025-26 schedule with home matches against NC State, Virginia Tech — West Virginia and will complete its final season at the Fitzgerald Field House. The season will begin on November 1 with a dual at Navy and will continue with key meets throughout November, December, January and February as returning champions and NCAA qualifiers join the team.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren is inactive today due to a knee injury that emerged earlier this week — the team will rest him during the bye week and rely on Kenneth Gainwell and Kaleb Johnson to take on his workload.  PennLive
  • Pitt volleyball beat No. 11 SMU in four sets on Sunday at Petersen Events Center—raising its win streak to 10 games and keeping it 2-0 in conference play, and the Panthers will host Clemson on Friday at Fitzgerald Field House at 6 p.m.  The Pitt News
  • The Steelers beat the Vikings in Dublin on Sunday, Sept 28 and honored team president Art Rooney II’s Irish roots—his family is from Newry. The team played strong on offense and defense and posted what many called their best game yet.  PennLive
