- ➤ Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale held a groundbreaking ceremony for major renovations, which include plans to add a new roof, new steps + a ramp to improve access to the 107-year-old building. The event took place on September 20 at 12:24 p.m. EDT. WPXI

- ➤ Anchor Hocking ended a planned sale of the closed Pyrex glass plant in Charleroi after the FTC and state AG said a buyer wanting to shift production would face legal challenges—leaving local officials, union members, and former employees uncertain about the plant’s future. PennLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students at Harvest Baptist Academy in Fawn are learning leadership and business skills in a new greenhouse entrepreneurship class that teaches time management and teamwork. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Saturday, Pittsburgh restarted its deer management program in several parks, adding hunts in Hays Woods, McKinley Park, Hazelwood Greenway, Southside Park and Seldom Seen Greenway to reduce deer-vehicle collisions and protect native plants. The 2025-2026 season will run until Dec. 13 and resume from Dec. 26 to Jan. 24—officials said signs in all parks will guide visitors to stay on trails and keep dogs leashed. WPXI

- ➤ New Kensington officials approved merging three fire companies to improve response times as volunteer numbers drop and call volumes rise. Fire Chief Ed Saliba said the merger is pending court approval and that the Parnassus station will be closed—changes meant to get more firefighters on scene quickly. The Tribune-Review
- ➤ The East Busway between Swissvale and Wilkinsburg is closed for the weekend to let Norfolk Southern demolish the Washington Avenue Bridge — it will remain closed until 4 a.m. Monday and is the first of up to three planned closures with additional closures scheduled for Sept 27-29 and Oct 4-6. - ➤ The Allegheny County Health Department shut down Took Took, a Thai restaurant in Squirrel Hill on Sept. 16 after inspectors found rodent droppings on a meat grinder and cooked rice—along with dead mice and several high-risk food safety violations, so the restaurant must clean and remove all contaminants before it can reopen.
