COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents in Arnold in Westmoreland County plan to build a playground—designed for children with special needs and autism—because many Pittsburgh area parks do not offer inclusive equipment.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • A reunion event was held in Ardara by Adopt A Sato this weekend to reunite rescued dogs and their adoptive families—organizers said the group has saved 500 dogs since 2012—amid high euthanasia rates in Puerto Rico. Rescue workers, including Pam Bacco, hosted a Chinese auction, K-9 demonstration and horseback performances to celebrate the rescue mission.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • On Monday night, the 8th Annual Ryan’s Night to Remember provided a hot dinner for around 100 people in need at First Presbyterian Church and was organized by Outreached Arms to honor Ryan Cenk—who died from brain cancer in 2017.   • The borough launched the Heidelberg Helpers program to match residents needing help with volunteers willing to lend a hand with everyday household tasks. The initiative will allow neighbors to support each other—helping ensure no one struggles alone.  The Tribune-Review

  • Moochi and You, a new snack shop in Bellevue, opened in mid-August and now offers pan-Asian treats such as Korean corn dogs, bubble tea, milk tea and mochi doughnuts—items that are trending on TikTok.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Duquesne Light expanded its automated phone system to serve more customers during severe storms that cause power outages — the upgrade is expected to improve response times and maintain reliable service.  CBS Pittsburgh

CULTURE NEWS

  • Allegheny General Hospital welcomed Emmy-winning actor Noah Wyle on Tuesday as filming began for season 2 of 'The Pitt'—a show that highlights Pittsburgh’s local healthcare heroes. The crew will film scenes on the hospital’s LifeFlight helipad and at entry points while interior scenes are shot in California—filming that does not affect patient care.  WPXI
  • The Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival will run from Sept. 18 to Sept. 21 at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center on Liberty Ave, offering free concerts where residents can dance on the street and enjoy live jazz. The event will include tributes to icons like George Benson and a pre-festival jazz train ride — a special way for the city to share its music legacy — that promises to draw many fans.  Pittsburgh City Paper

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Josh Shapiro is set to speak on political violence today at the Eradicate Hate Global Summit at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh at 11 a.m.—the summit was created after the deadly Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Squirrel Hill and gathers people to promote prevention of hate fueled violence.  WTAE
  • On Tuesday, Pittsburgh City Council will review a bill that bans housing discrimination against people with homelessness or shelter backgrounds—Rachel Shepherd from the Commission on Human Relations said the measure will protect access to safe housing. People who feel they are being discriminated against will be able to seek help from the commission.  The Tribune-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Allegheny County Health Department found four violations during an inspection on Monday at Noodlehead on South Highland Avenue in Shadyside, prompting a second Consumer Alert after multiple customer complaints of illness from meals on September 4 and 6. The inspection revealed high-risk issues—such as improper food temperatures and poor utensil hygiene—that led to discarding the affected food.  KDKA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Steelers defensive tackle Isaiahh Loudermilk suffered a high ankle sprain and was seen with a boot and on crutches on Sunday — he is expected to miss several games including the team's bye week — as teammates step into his role.  PennLive
  • New Penguins coach Dan Muse arrived in Pittsburgh with a strong record of building defense—he now faces the challenge of coaching a group known for its tough play.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Quarterback J.J. McCarthy will likely miss the Steelers game against the Vikings in Ireland two Sundays from now—Pittsburgh will have to play without him.  WPXI
  • Steelers cornerback Darius Slay suffered a shoulder injury against the Seattle Seahawks and will be limited this week as the team prepares to play the Patriots. Coach Tomlin said Slay is likely to play against the Patriots—although his practice time will be reduced—and his game performance may be affected.  PennLive
