- ➤ A fire damaged Dornie & Lori Daycare on Aug. 27 in Derry Township, but all 10 kids escaped safely—community members quickly sent donations and extra help. Lori plans to rebuild the daycare and a spaghetti dinner fundraiser will be held at Latrobe Community Ministries on Sept. 27 from 3—7 p.m.—tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children. WTAE
- ➤ In Pittsburgh, survivors from a massive fire at the Jefferson Apartment came together as newlyweds Jasper Mays and Jonahcharis Brown lost their home and cherished belongings in the blaze. The victims are now accepting clothing and monetary donations to help rebuild their lives—neighbors are standing together after the tragedy. WTAE

- ➤ On Friday night, Pittsburgh Regional Transit said PennDOT approved its $106.7 million request for state capital funds to avoid service cuts and fare hikes set to start early 2026. Later this month, PRT will amend its operating and capital budgets—covering a projected $100 million deficit—while working on a long-term solution, CEO Katharine Kelleman said. WTAE
- ➤ Allegheny Township supervisors approved plans for Rural Urgent Care, LLC — a 2,700 square-foot facility at 48 Towne Center Drive near the magistrate's office — to improve local access to care. Representatives are working with Westmoreland County engineers to finalize entrance and exit plans, and the company will break ground next year with six months planned for completion.
