  • A fatal explosion last week at U.S. Steel’s Pittsburgh-area coal-processing plant in Clairton killed two workers and injured 10 while officials investigated the cause—raising questions about the plant’s future amid debates over investment from Nippon Steel.  KDKA
  • On Saturday, a driver who admitted drinking made a left turn on Fifth Avenue in Uptown—hitting and killing 65-year-old Andre Reynolds, police confirmed.  WPXI

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Point Park University and Gateway School District have joined to ease the teacher shortage by letting high school students earn 24 college credits for teacher certification—giving them a clear path into education—while offering on-the-job training to help experienced staff upgrade their skills. The program, rooted in a strong local partnership and grant support, aims to keep more aspiring educators in Pittsburgh.  WTAE

  • Pittsburgh Steelers running back Kaleb Johnson said he sent a message with his performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Saturday—he played freely and improved his decision-making after he struggled with tension in his first game against the Jaguars.  PennLive
