CRIME NEWS

  • Two shootings happened in Bedford Dwellings on Sunday—one around 7:45 p.m. on Chauncy Drive injured a man in the chest who drove himself to a police station, and another around 11:45 p.m. on Bedford Avenue left a man critically injured after he was shot in the head as a suspect fled toward McKees Rocks.  KDKA
  • A man was shot in the head in Pittsburgh on July 28th—police say the incident remains under investigation.  WPXI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Andy Warhol Museum has opened an exhibition called 'Good Business: Andy Warhol’s Screenprints' that shows nearly 100 works from the artist. The show displays his early, messy screenprints as well as later, precise pieces to show that making money can be art — it runs through Sept. 1.  NEXTpittsburgh

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 43,000 Pittsburgh residents will soon get a notice that their medical debt has been erased through a city partnership with Undue Medical Debt—over $58 million in debt was wiped out following a 2023 law that lets eligible residents receive automatic relief. The notice will go to locals with incomes between 0% and 400% of the federal poverty level or who owe at least 5% of their annual income in medical bills.  WTAE
  • Residents of Brighton Heights have repeatedly lost water when main breaks occurred in large pipes, and they are tired of the many outages. Pittsburgh Councilman Bobby Wilson said repairs will start soon — his office expects the fix to improve water flow in the neighborhood.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • Today, Pittsburgh Regional Transit is installing modular curb extensions at five downtown bus stops as part of an $800,000 project that uses recycled materials to align boarding platforms with traffic lanes. The installations — made from recycled rubber components — will be completed over the next three weeks, and some locals worry about traffic delays — though they are designed to help seniors and people with disabilities.  WTAE
  • A new medic station replaced an old firehouse at 213 Lafayette Ave in Pittsburgh’s Northside, built with salvaged materials and as the first city-owned facility meeting high-performance building standards — Mayor Ed Gainey said it is 'Net Zero Ready' to support public safety and sustainability.  WPXI

  • Pittsburgh CitiParks and the Allegheny County Department of Human Services said cooling centers will remain open today and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. as hot weather is expected to push temperatures above 90+ degrees during a code red heat advisory and residents are urged to take precautions.  WTAE
