  • Local volunteers packed snacks on July 23 to help fight child food insecurity among kids this summer & they said healthy eating is key to better overall success. These efforts aim to support improved nutrition and school readiness in the community.  WPXI
  • Millvale community leaders are boosting youth programs with free music classes, summer camps, and meals to help local children thrive during the summer break. CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday afternoon, Pittsburgh police, river rescue and emergency medical services responded at 3:30 p.m. near the 10th Street Bridge to reports of a body in the Monongahela River and recovered the deceased, identified as Eliza Durham, while the medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.  The Tribune-Review

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pittsburgh Public Schools reported that between August 26 and June 12, 2025, 10,989 drivers failed to stop for buses with flashing red lights. The data from AI safety cameras by BusPatrol showed that most offenders were first-time violators and the 5300 block of Fifth Avenue saw 392 violations—efforts that aim to protect students as they board buses.  PublicSource
  • Pittsburgh-based Duolingo is adding math courses to its free app to help students beat the summer slide by making learning fun like a game. The courses will adjust to each student’s strengths and soon include algebra and calculus + real-life lessons such as budgeting.  WTAE

  • Pittsburgh Regional Transit will open five new bus stations at Ross Street, William Penn, Market Square, Wood Street, and Steel Plaza on Sunday as part of the $291 million University Line project—designed to connect Downtown, Uptown and Oakland while offering improved seating and canopies.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh city officials and emergency responders held a hearing on emergency response and readiness that focused on lessons from the windstorm which hit western Pennsylvania in April + officials say the discussion will shape plans for better storm response in the future.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • The new terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport is more than 90% complete as crews finish the ceiling, flooring, and removal of scaffolding. The Airport Authority will hold a public test run on September 20 (with up to 2,500 registered travelers) before the terminal opens in October (pending final adjustments).  WTAE
  • Pittsburgh City Controller Rachael Heisler warned Wednesday that city spending is unsustainable—revenues are not keeping up with the fast pace of spending amid rising budget strains.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
