  • A little food pantry was installed July 12 outside Calvert Memorial Presbyterian Church in Etna to help residents get food when they need it—built by 16-year-old Holden Driver as part of his Eagle Scout project.  The Tribune-Review

  • A fatal fire broke out in South Park Township early on July 21+ one person died in the incident.  WPXI

CRIME NEWS

  • An Allegheny County Jail corrections officer was suspended after a video — showing racist and hateful comments — sparked condemnation from local leaders.  CBS Pittsburgh

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pittsburgh's plan to reorganize and close some public school buildings enters a public hearing phase; five hearings are scheduled from today through July 30 (at the administration building in Oakland) and will be streamed online at either (5 p.m. or 7 p.m.) with speakers signing up a week in advance if they are residents or directly impacted.  WTAE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pittsburgh Regional Transit began ticketing drivers in downtown bus lanes this weekend and said that bright red lanes on Fifth, Liberty and Sixth avenues are reserved for buses and emergency vehicles only. Officials said drivers face a $25 citation (with additional fees that may raise fines near $200) and urged motorists to heed lane markings.  The Tribune-Review
