  • Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh is waiving adoption fees for dogs six months and older from today until June 15 to ease shelter overcrowding—adopters will pay the county dog license fee and can visit either rescue location for the event.  WPXI

CRIME NEWS

  • A Clairton man was convicted by a Westmoreland County jury of attempted homicide—along with more than a dozen charges—for shooting and injuring a Monroeville officer in 2023.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • On June 6, hundreds marched down Liberty Ave in Bloomfield during Pittsburgh's Dyke March as protesters showed support for the trans and queer community and criticized law enforcement and UPMC for following rules that limit trans healthcare—social media posts affirmed that trans dykes are here to stay.  Pittsburgh City Paper

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pittsburgh City Council voted in favor of new legislation that increases paid sick time for city workers + union members said the law will benefit all workers, not just those in the union.  WPXI

SPORTS NEWS

  • The United States Golf Association announced tee times for the first two rounds of the 125th U.S. Open Championship at Oakmont Country Club. The rounds will take place on June 12 and 13 with varying start times—official schedules detail the timings—so golfers can plan accordingly.  WPXI
  • The Steelers named rookie Derrick Harmon as the starting left defensive end—coach Karl Dunbar said he 'goes out there with the ones.' Drafted in the first round after the team cut ties with Larry Ogunjobi, Harmon will take the field alongside Cam Heyward and Keeanu Benton in the base lineup.  PennLive
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers revealed a contract for quarterback Aaron Rodgers that gives him a $13.65 million base salary and $10 million guaranteed pay — he can earn up to $5.85 million in incentives for playoff appearances, wins and championships. The team expects the deal will help him rebound after a challenging season.  PennLive
  • Pittsburgh Steelers rookie defensive tackle Yahya Black is expected to show his versatility on the defensive line as he currently works at the 4i position + coach Karl Dunbar noted that he is suited to play various spots while strengthening the run defense.  PennLive
  • The Pittsburgh Steelers reported on Tuesday to the South Side for their mandatory mini-camp—where new team members, including quarterback Aaron Rodgers making his debut, joined the practice.
