COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Bishop Mark Eckman has been named the 13th bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh and was honored at Resurrection Parish in Bethel Park for his tech skills and caring nature. He will hold his first Mass as bishop on July 14 at St. Paul Cathedral—an event that marks a proud step for his community.  The Tribune-Review
  • Veterans Place in Pittsburgh's Larimer neighborhood provides transitional housing for up to two years—offering meals, laundry, a computer lab, job placement and wellness services to over 1,000 veterans since 2023. Case managers help veterans build savings and manage bills while offering follow-up support for six months after they leave the program.  WTAE

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Walmart and Sam’s Club at a Pittsburgh-area mall are suing Namdar Realty Group for not fixing dangerous roads that have led to lost sales and risky driving conditions. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court, seeks over $229,700 in damages and claims that repairs would cost more than $5 million — the companies say they warned the owners several times.  PennLive

  • Brentwood Police say 17-year-old Jaydee Aviles, who left his home on Tuesday after an argument with his caretaker, is missing—he is 5 feet 3 inches tall, weighs 130 pounds and was last seen wearing a red multi-colored hoodie, black pants, Air Force 1 shoes and brown sunglasses, with police reporting he may be in the Penn Hills/Verona area.  WTAE

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Three Rivers Arts Festival, now held at the Strip District's 15th Street Plaza along Waterfront Place, began on Thursday and will run through Sunday—replacing its usual 10-day downtown run due to construction. The festival features art, live music, dancing and an artist market for visitors to enjoy.  WTAE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pennsylvania banned handheld phone use while driving even at red lights — drivers now receive warnings until fines start on June 6, 2026. Officials say Paul Miller's Law aims to cut distractions that have caused many crashes.  WTAE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Allegheny General Hospital opened a new $100 million imaging center designed to improve patient care with advanced technology in a fifty thousand square foot facility. The center is part of over $400 million invested by Allegheny Health Network — Highmark Health to upgrade imaging services for thousands of patients.  WPXI

  • The Steelers wide receivers are not worried about trade rumors and say each player must earn his spot by practicing hard—Calvin Austin III and Robert Woods dismissed last year’s speculation and agreed that performance will decide who plays.  PennLive
  • Aaron Rodgers is signing a one-year deal with the Steelers and is flying into Pittsburgh today to finalize his contract — he will join mandatory minicamp Tuesday.  PennLive
