  • On Saturday, thousands of locals gathered downtown for the Pittsburgh Pride festival to mark the start of Pride Month. Organizers (who planned the event) said the crowd was the biggest ever (showing strong support).  CBS Pittsburgh

CRIME NEWS

  • Allegheny County police are asking the community for help to solve a 2024 homicide in McKeesport when 39-year-old Brandon Dean, a ride‐share driver, was fatally shot on May 2nd, 2024 just before 10:30 p.m.—he picked up four passengers from an abandoned home on Palmgreen Street and detectives have not yet identified them.  WTAE

CULTURE NEWS

  • Downtown Pittsburgh’s Arts Landing project is now fully funded with $10 million from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and will transform the Eighth Street Block in the Cultural District into a vibrant arts hub — a key step in the city’s ongoing cultural development.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

  • Many insiders say most in the Steelers organization favored Justin Fields over Russell Wilson, but coach Mike Tomlin chose Wilson — a decision that reportedly caused division among team members — and the team later did not bring back either player.  PennLive

  • Insiders say the Steelers have offered a new contract to star outside linebacker T.J. Watt, and his teammate Alex Highsmith said Watt wants to stay with the team+ contract details have not been released.   • Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Cory Trice (27) performed strongly during OTAs after recovering from a torn ACL and hamstring injury and showed fluid, instinctual play early this summer.   • North Allegheny grad Cole Young, a Mariners infield prospect, made his major league debut in the Futures Game in Arlington, Texas last July—he impressed scouts with his performance.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • On Sunday, the Pittsburgh Pirates ended their six-game road trip at Petco Park with a 6-4 loss to the Padres after blowing their 18th lead of the season—Andrew McCutchen hit a two-run home run that tied Roberto Clemente for third on the Pirates’ all-time home run list.  WPXI
