  • A crash involving nine vehicles shut down southbound Route 28—blocking the roadway—and delaying traffic.  WPXI
  • State and Washington County officials met to propose safety changes after a 12-year-old drowned while swimming with friends in the Monongahela River on May 27—official discussions to prevent another tragedy aired on Channel 11 at 6 p.m.  WPXI

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Four big PA Lottery jackpots hit the area with a $1 million win from a scratch-off at Rick's Tobacco Outlet in Greensburg, a $146,552 Treasure Hunt jackpot at Grab-N-Go in Burgettstown, and online wins of $100,000 and $318,272 in Butler and Lawrence Counties; winners must sign their tickets & call the Lottery to claim their prizes within one year of the sale or drawing.   • Kennywood Park is under new ownership by Herschend—its deal to acquire Palace Entertainment’s U.S. theme parks, including Kennywood, Sandcastle and Idlewild, was completed on Tuesday. The company said it will focus on listening and building relationships as it plans future changes.  WTAE

CRIME NEWS

  • A Fayette County chiropractor—Dr. Jon Rumbaugh, who has practiced for over 30 years—pleaded guilty to multiple counts of misdemeanor indecent assault and invasion of privacy after four former patients reported inappropriate touching, and his sentencing is scheduled for August 7.  CBS Pittsburgh

  • Black-owned barbecue restaurants such as Sylvia’s, Showcase and The Dream honor Pittsburgh’s rich food legacy by serving ribs and flavors that echo the old rib joints—like Boykin’s and Wilson’s—long cherished by local families. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Action News 4 visited Gateway School District where special education teacher Isabella Condie at Gateway High School was surprised with the WTAE Teacher of the Month award for May. Students who run the school’s Gator Cafe helped present the award while a $1,000 donation from Closets by Design will support new resources on DonorsChoose—she plans to address a broken cappuccino machine.  WTAE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers complained that a lane closure near the Squirrel Hill Tunnel has extended rush hour delays and forced hazardous detours on side streets. PennDOT said the $95 million Commercial Street Bridge Replacement Project will restrict traffic until July—though a break will occur during U.S. Open week.  WPXI
  • U.S. Sen. David McCormick said Tuesday that the planned deal for Nippon Steel to invest in U.S. Steel will guarantee an American CEO—an American-majority board and government veto power over key decisions. The $14 billion investment will fund a new electric arc furnace and support improvements at facilities in Pittsburgh, including a research center at Carnegie Mellon, to address national security concerns.  The Tribune-Review
