  • Steel Curtain, the Pittsburgh Steelers-themed coaster at Kennywood, reopens today at 11 a.m. after a year-long closure for modifications—Kennywood added three new columns and braces to improve safety.  PennLive

  • This summer, Cinemark will offer family movie tickets for $1.75 (plus taxes and fees) at four local theaters in Pittsburgh. The deal will be part of the new Summer Movie Clubhouse (available for certain movies) that brings affordable family outings.  WPXI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Memorial Day Weekend brings a variety of events to Pittsburgh. Kennywood Bites and Pints Food and Drink Festival runs each weekend through June 29 with global food and rides available, Pittsburgh Riverlife Chalk Fest takes place on Isabella Street (North Shore) with street art, food and live music, and the Mega Reptile Expo at the Monroeville Convention Center runs today and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. for exotic pet enthusiasts.  CBS Pittsburgh

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Penn State's Board of Trustees voted to close seven commonwealth campuses—including Penn State New Kensington—at the end of spring 2027. Affected campuses will stop accepting new or transfer students after fall 2025 as they begin a two-year wind-down phase that leaves students and faculty facing an uncertain future.  WTAE

HEALTH NEWS

  • Brooke Riederer, a Pittsburgh mom under 40, suffered a 'widow maker' heart attack while shoveling snow at her Ross Township home on May 23rd and was rushed to AHN Wexford where doctors found her main artery was 99% blocked. She now urges other women to seek prompt treatment for symptoms like jaw or back pain—warning that early care can save lives.  CBS Pittsburgh
