- ➤ A female lion cub was born at Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium on April 5 to nine-year-old parents, Scarlett and Hondo. The cub is resting in a maternity den and will make its public debut in late summer. WPXI
- ➤ Allegheny County police ran their leg of the three-day Special Olympics torch run that started Tuesday at PNC Park (with Penn State hosting the 2026 Summer Games), while in Butler County a $1 million lottery ticket was sold at Uni Express in Evans City, earning the retailer a $5,000 bonus. - ➤ Four peregrine falcon chicks were banded by the Pennsylvania Game Commission on Wednesday morning at the Cathedral of Learning (University of Pittsburgh). This method has been used for three consecutive years to track the growth and health of Carla and Ecco's offspring. WPXI

- ➤ City of Pittsburgh received a $1.66M EPA grant to modernize recycling and yard waste services by investing in vehicles, updating drop-off sites with new pavement, fencing, and compactors, and installing security cameras at key locations. The upgrades will expand curbside collection and boost the city's sustainability efforts. WPXI
- ➤ Officials broke ground Tuesday on a $30 million project at the historic Smithfield Lofts in Downtown to add 46 apartment units, including 39 affordable units. The project is supported by state and federal credits and local investments and will finish in fall. WPXI
