- ➤ On April 5, Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium welcomed a new female lion cub born to Scarlett and Hondo, currently resting in a maternity den (as part of the Lion Species Survival Plan). The zoo will introduce the cub to the public later this summer. The Tribune-Review

- ➤ Viva Los Tacos, which had taken over the Original Hot Dog Shop space on Forbes Avenue, closed on Monday, May 18 — leaving the building vacant and sparking questions about the venue’s future. KDKA
- ➤ Schuster Automotive, a full-service shop in Harrison, was founded in 2017 by Kody Schuster, who built the business on fair pricing and strong community ties. Now on Freeport Road, the shop seeks a part-time mechanic as it faces challenges from a shifting auto industry. The Tribune-Review

- ➤ A $1 million winning ticket for the $10 'Win Win Win' scratch-off was sold at Uni Express on East Main Street in Evans City; the ticket holder must sign the back immediately and contact the Lottery to claim the prize within a year. KDKA
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission expect nearly 2.18 million drivers to travel on the toll road between May 22 and 25 — they have suspended construction on open lanes from May 21 through 25 to improve travel safety during the busy Memorial Day weekend. WPXI
- ➤ Veterans received reserved parking spots at all 17 service plazas along the Pennsylvania Turnpike following a Monday announcement by the Turnpike Commission. Each plaza now has two parking spaces that require no placard and are funded by the Pennsylvania American Legion after a push by Rep. Jennifer O’Mara. The Tribune-Review
- ➤ City Council gave preliminary approval for a public hearing on reopening Schenley Park’s Serpentine Drive to cars after the Squirrel Hill Historical Society petitioned (citing a $2.5 million repair and the road’s original design), and the winding road now serves only bicyclists and pedestrians.
