- ➤ The renovated Wiley Street side of the New Granada Theater now hosts the Hill District Community Engagement Center, which will soon offer free cultural, educational & health services through partnerships with Pitt’s creative programs. A Homewood community day is scheduled for Aug. 14 to strengthen local ties and service access. University Times
- ➤ Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy launched the new Trackchair program May 1 at Frick Park to let people with disabilities explore five trails using all-terrain electric wheelchairs. Volunteers guide users on first outings, and reservations for June and July open May 29 — feedback will help shape future programs. The Tribune-Review

- ➤ At the final Faculty Assembly meeting, Sen. Council President Kris Kanthak reflected on the spring commencement at Acrisure Stadium and announced three new policies for academic visitors, the OneCard payment system and purchasing practices (all designed to enhance clarity and compliance for campus procedures). - ➤ The Children’s Literature Program will host a special event from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 28 at Hillman Library’s Archives & Special Collections to coincide with the Children’s Literature Association Conference. Community members and conference participants will explore archival stations with Pitt librarians’ presentations and enjoy Pittsburgh cookies. University Times
- ➤ Allegheny Valley School District's preliminary budget will keep property taxes flat at 21.7049 mills so homeowners will pay $1,864, and the board votes on the plan on May 18 as further tax hikes are expected. The Tribune-Review

- ➤ The Department of Public Works has granted P3R a permit to close the Andy Warhol Bridge for the Rush to Crush Cancer cycling event from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 17. Allegheny County
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Professor J. Timothy Greenamyre received a $9 million grant from ASAP in partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation on Friday, May 15 to study environmental causes of Parkinson’s neurodegeneration. He leads the Pittsburgh Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases & collaborates with researchers across institutions to improve diagnostics and future therapies. University Times
- ➤ Allegheny General Hospital's South Tower (90-year-old) will begin a four-year, $36 million renovation in June to preserve its architecture and extend its life. Mascaro Construction will replace over 800 windows and repair 60,000 sqft of roof, with work expected to finish by 2030. KDKA
- ➤ After a May 14 inspection, Prantl’s Bakery on Walnut Street in Shadyside was placed under a Consumer Alert when inspectors found rodent droppings and a decomposed rat in several areas. The bakery must clean and correct six violations within 10 days to have the alert removed. KDKA
- ➤ On Sunday morning in Schenley Park, Pittsburgh will host the 34th Komen More than Pink Walk, a free community event raising funds for breast cancer research, patient support and education. Organizers expect to engage local survivors and families in a long-standing celebration + ongoing effort for better care. WTAE

- ➤ Loews Hotels signed a letter of intent to build a new 500-room hotel at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center — including a restaurant — after a $30 million state investment. The project is set to add 1,600 union jobs, and construction will take 24 months. CBS Pittsburgh
