ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A man died after his car rear-ended a dump truck on Route 22 in Murrysville near Mellon Road early Saturday morning at 3:30 a.m.—the 71-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  CBS Pittsburgh

CULTURE NEWS

  • Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lower Burrell will mark its 175th anniversary in June with a community celebration featuring local music, free hot dogs, snacks, games & a craft table for children. The church will also hold a replica 1850 service on June 8 with a hymn-sing at 10:30 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m. to honor its long history and ongoing outreach.  The Tribune-Review

  • Today, Pittsburgh mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County controller Corey O’Connor spoke with 4 The Record host Shannon Perrine as they prepared for the May primary. Gainey detailed his work lowering homicides—while O’Connor shared plans for housing and economic growth in the city.  WTAE

  • Pittsburgh's first Vegan Restaurant Week is underway with over a dozen local restaurants offering special plant-based menus—showcasing creative dishes by local chefs.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Steelers signed veteran running back Trey Sermon after a tryout at the rookie minicamp over the weekend. Sermon, 26, played for the 49ers, Eagles and Colts and had his best game in 2023 when he rushed 17 times for 88 yards against the Steelers.  WPXI
  • Former Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury was named to the NHL’s Quarter Century team that honors the top 25 players of the past 25 years—joining Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. He retired after 21 seasons and spent 13 years with Pittsburgh, finishing his career with records that still stand.  WPXI
  • On May 11, the Pirates walked off the Braves 4-3 with a bases-loaded fielders’ choice called by Joey Bart that clinched the series for Pittsburgh—Carmen Mlodzinski pitched 5.2 scoreless innings while the bullpen struggled late.  WPXI
  • Former Steelers wide receiver George Pickens criticized the team on Instagram after his trade to the Dallas Cowboys, calling them 'the cheapest organization' before deleting his post and saying he would focus on building a winning culture with his new team. General manager Omar Khan said the Cowboys reached out with a deal that made sense for everyone + the trade was completed after discussions with Pickens and his agent.  PennLive
