  • A local farm supply business in Murrysville is back after a March fire damaged three greenhouse bays. The co-owner said volunteer fire departments helped rebuild a new greenhouse in under three weeks ahead of Mother’s Day weekend (380 Auction and Discount Warehouse).  WPXI

  • Pittonkatonk festival returns for its 13th year with global grooves and local horns in a wooded venue near Pittsburgh; the event will offer residents a lively musical experience on an upcoming weekend.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf won a national robotics championship at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf competition in Edgewood (Pa.) on Friday; the school hosted a pep rally to celebrate their victory and inspire local students to explore robotics and drones.  WTAE
  • The University of Pittsburgh will build a new freshmen residence hall to ease the campus housing shortage and handle the record surge in applications. The dorm is expected to open in about a year and a half.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Pittsburgh International Airport will receive $10.7 million in federal funding for upgrades after U.S. representative Chris Deluzio announced the funds on Thursday.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

  • Allegheny Health Network introduced a new LifeFlight helicopter today to upgrade emergency response services in Pittsburgh. Barry Pintar from KDKA-TV described its advanced design (offering improved performance from older models).  CBS Pittsburgh

  • The Steelers are reviewing film to see if Gennings Dunker, a right tackle last season, can switch to guard this season + the team compares him with Max Iheanachor to choose the best fit.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • The Pirates clinched the series with a 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks at Chase Field on Thursday afternoon. Mitch Keller and Brandon Lowe led the team as they won two of three games.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • At the Kamin Science Center, Pittsburgh’s top 2025-26 WPIAL and City League basketball players were honored with Super 7 and T.J. McConnell Leadership Awards. Nearly 200 guests saw interactive sports exhibits + heartfelt speeches during this red carpet event.  KDKA
