  • Pastor Michael Anthony Day of Legacy International Worship Center is planning a town hall meeting to address youth violence and public disturbances downtown — the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department director will attend, and details will be confirmed soon.  WTAE
  • Trib Total Media will launch Newsworks Lab on Pittsburgh’s North Shore this month, led by award-winning journalist Andrew Conte. The $1.25 million project strives to boost accountability reporting through investigative partnerships with local colleges and news outlets.  The Tribune-Review
  • Oakmont’s RCAC partnered with ACCESS in April to launch the Twin-Boro Van Service for seniors and people with disabilities around Allegheny County. The wheelchair-accessible van (holding 14 people) costs $1 per trip and serves Oakmont, Verona, and Penn Hills.  The Tribune-Review
  • Allegheny CleanWays, an Etna nonprofit led by Caily Grube since 2023, held cleanup events and raised about $1 million before the NFL Draft, and will use the money to keep 50 miles of highway free of litter for two years.  WPXI

  • Breeze Airways launched a nonstop flight from Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) to Louisville, Ky, yesterday, providing a direct travel option for passengers.  WPXI

  • A new roller-skating rink opened today in Market Square while officials introduced a chaperone policy for minors at the Downtown gathering spa to support community safety.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh is gearing up for a busy summer with Pittonkatonk starting today at Vietnam Veterans Pavilion, and free concerts and music festivals lined up at venues like South Park Amphitheater, Hartwood Acres and TRAF at Arts Landing.   • Congressmen Ro Khanna and Chris Deluzio visited steel plants in Leetsdale and Koppel on May 7 to discuss boosting local manufacturing against competitive pressures from China using tax credits & industrial investment.  CBS Pittsburgh

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents near Donegal will have a chance to question plans for mine wastewater discharge as DEP holds a hearing on June 16 at St. Raymond of the Mountains Parish (170 School House Road) in Donegal Township, and a permit decision is expected on Aug. 10.  The Tribune-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • Iyanna Bridges leads a Black-centered doula training program at The Birthing Hut that offers a three-month cohort with weekly two-hour classes, hands-on instruction plus mentorship to help combat racial disparities in local maternal care.  Pittsburgh City Paper
  • A Tuesday inspection by the Allegheny County Health Department in Oakland found 14 violations at Caribbean Village Fusion, including four high-risk issues (dirty food contact surfaces and decomposed rodents), and the restaurant must fix them within 10 days or face closure.  KDKA

SPORTS NEWS

  • Penguins GM Kyle Dubas signed contract extensions with forward Connor Dewar and defenseman Ilya Solovyov as part of an active offseason, with Dewar earning a two-year deal through the 2027 — 28 season at an average of $2.25 million per year after a 30-point season.  WPXI
  • The Penguins re-signed free-agent forward Connor Dewar to a two-year contract and defenseman Ilya Solovyov to a one-year deal ahead of the 2026-27 season; Dewar posted 30 points last season while Solovyov joined the team in January.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • Aaron Rodgers is in Pittsburgh from Friday through the weekend to discuss his contract with the Steelers. The team placed him on an unrestricted free agent tender that may earn them a draft pick if he signs with another team by July 22.  WTAE
