  • At Fourth & Feast: From the Field to the Table held Monday, May. 4 in Millvale at the Food and Energy Hub, organizers turned NFL Draft surplus food into a zero-waste dinner featuring dishes made from rescued ingredients & spirit-free drinks donated by Virtue Signal Brewing Co.   • Leaders from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Penguins, and Steelers announced a hunger relief campaign on Monday to help community members facing food insecurity across southwestern Pennsylvania.  WPXI

  • A family-run Brentwood restaurant, The Crack'd Egg, will close on May 10 due to rising costs and ongoing pressures (as mentioned by the owners on social media). It opened in 2015 and had previously revised its lease option before shutting down.  WPXI

CULTURE NEWS

  • CMU’s Posner Center for Special Collections is showing a rotating exhibition that features a rare 1980s AI art painting by Harold Cohen using AARON and one of only five copies of the U.S. Bill of Rights — open to the public in Oakland and changing annually.  NEXTpittsburgh
  • The Carnegie Museum of Art is hosting the 59th Carnegie International, a multisensory exhibition featuring 61 artists from around the world that runs until Jan. 3 (regular admission applies).   • KDKA honors veteran reporter Bob Kmetz, who died recently after a 32-year career covering major stories such as 9/11 and the Ashland Oil spill; he retired in 2004 and is remembered by listeners for his keen dedication (a lasting journalistic legacy).  KDKA

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Tarentum approved two chimney swift towers near the marina and Bakerstown Road to support a declining bird population—critical to pest control after a 70% drop over five decades. The migratory birds will arrive this week from South America to roost and nest in the towers.  The Tribune-Review

FINANCE NEWS

  • A local winner received $10,000 a month for life after buying a lottery ticket at Century Square Shop 'n Save on Mountain View Drive in West Mifflin. The winner must sign the ticket & contact the lottery within a year to secure the prize.  KDKA

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Allegheny County Sanitary Authority’s ($3 billion) wastewater project (set to start this summer) is hundreds of millions over budget, and officials say higher bills for ratepayers will help cover rising costs. The project aims to reduce sewage spills into local waterways and protect river health.  CBS Pittsburgh

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mt. Lebanon's Carbonara's Ristorante remains under a Consumer Alert after a May 4 inspection by the Allegheny County Health Department found 16 violations — including high-risk food safety issues with cold-held foods and unsanitary practices.
