CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A funeral home director with offices in Pittsburgh and Natrona Heights is accused of defrauding thousands of pet owners by taking money for burials and cremations while reportedly disposing of pet bodies improperly—authorities are investigating the allegations. CBS Pittsburgh
- ➤ Pittsburgh funeral home owner Patrick Vereb faced charges of theft, receiving stolen property, and deceptive business practices after he allegedly took more than $650,000 from over 6,500 pet owners for services he did not perform—many pets were reportedly dumped in a landfill instead of being cremated properly. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Club Cafe, a popular South Side music venue that closed at the end of 2024, is set to reopen this summer under new owners from Keystone Artist Connect + co-founded by Maddy Lafferty and Danielle Mashuda. The new team will keep the venue’s music tradition alive while adding food, booking options and artist residencies. WPXI

- ➤ Today the Allegheny County Elections Division announced that mail-in ballots for the May 20 primary are on their way to voters who requested them, and the County Office Building is open for in-person voting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.—voter registration closes May 5 and mail-in ballot applications end May 13. Satellite offices will offer services on May 10 and 11 as part of an effort to help voters participate in the upcoming election. Allegheny County
