ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Early Monday, a son doing homework in a Cranberry Township basement spotted smoke and alerted his family, allowing three residents to evacuate safely—fire officials said the fire likely started from a grill on the back porch with no injuries reported.  WTAE

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was shot in the head in Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood late Sunday night when he ran from the scene and knocked on a neighbor’s door for help—police say he was alert and speaking with medics before being taken to a hospital in critical condition.  WPXI

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local church leaders in Pittsburgh mourn Pope Francis, who passed away early this morning. Bishop David Zubik will speak about his life today at 10 a.m.—church officials remember his humble care for the poor and suffering.  WTAE

  • Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey and Allegheny County Controller Corey O'Connor will take part in a live debate at the WTAE studio today at 7 p.m.—the event comes ahead of the Primary Election on May 20.  WTAE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that the Steelers may trade wide receiver George Pickens during the 2025 NFL Draft, but general manager Omar Khan said the team values his skills and plans to support him with an extension if a strong offer comes.  PennLive
  • Steve McNees, a former WPIAL star, has been named Pine Richland’s new boys varsity head basketball coach to rebuild the team after a 7-15 season. He said he will focus on culture building and early wins—using his college coaching experience—to guide the squad back to success.  KDKA
  • Pirates outfielder Jack Suwinski joined local residents at a ribbon-cutting in Elizabeth Township for the newly renovated Boston Ballfield where athletes practiced for the first time and he signed autographs for Little Leaguers. Crews renovated the playing surface and installed new lights and fencing over the weekend as phase one of a larger sports facility project—planned to add an indoor baseball facility and a soccer field in the future—was completed.  WTAE
