  • A 2-week-old eaglet at the U.S. Steel nest in West Mifflin swallowed a fishing hook seen on live stream and was taken for emergency surgery after wildlife permissions were granted. X‑rays showed the hook moved deep, and officials say the bird may rejoin its nest in a week.  WPXI

HEALTH NEWS

  • Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh used the FRED model (named for Fred Rogers) to simulate measles outbreaks that helped convince lawmakers to remove personal vaccine exemptions, a data-driven step that improved immunization rates.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • A six-month investigation found that many Pittsburgh public schools have fallen below herd immunity for measles—leaving thousands of children without required vaccines and putting vulnerable students at risk.
