- ➤ Allegheny Observatory and Riverview Park will mark Arbor Day on April 26 from 2 to 5:30 p.m. with physics and space activities and a celebration of the Moon Tree that grew from a seed flown around the moon by NASA. Outdoor events include hands-on demonstrations, a jazz musician, art activities, and guided hikes—indoor programs require free timed reservations. University Times
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A car crashed into a Penn Hills business on Frankstown Road on Thursday and left the scene, damaging the building owned by local entrepreneur Rico Rucker who said this marked the ninth incident at his property while police investigate. WPXI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews in Ross Township began a new phase of construction on McKnight Road, working on the bridge over Babcock Boulevard. The project will close the northbound off-ramp to Babcock Boulevard until early July — ramp traffic will be detoured. KDKA
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Camp Rise Up will be held on Saturday, April 26 at Raccoon Creek State Park to support teens aged 11 to 18 who lost a loved one to suicide. Co-founders Sarah Waddell and Celeste Wilhelm, trained by AFSP, developed the free day camp to include talking sessions and games—helping participants heal. WTAE
- ➤ Leidos and Pitt’s CPACE announced on April 18th their $10 million investment to develop AI tools that speed up disease detection for cancer and heart disease—this five-year project will build a research hub and offer training for future health care specialists. University Times
