BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bachman's Roofing opened its new office in Western PA Saturday and donated a new roof to the Sampson Family YMCA in Monroeville to support the community. The family-run business—headquartered in Wernersville—has served the Pittsburgh market for five years and will donate another roof and host a golf event for UPMC Children’s Hospital Oncology Department in September.  WTAE

CRIME NEWS

  • A Pittsburgh man already serving a life sentence for murder was sentenced to death on Thursday after he killed Sergeant Mark Baserman in 2018 and was convicted of first-degree murder along with two counts each of aggravated assault and assault by a prisoner.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh Police investigated a shooting that led to a white sedan crashing into a utility pole and catching fire in East Hills Friday evening— the driver was shot in the hip— while a female passenger was taken to the hospital as a second vehicle turned onto Grand Avene.  WTAE
  • A man was shot early yesterday at Club Imperium in Stowe Township and is in critical condition at a local hospital—police have identified everyone involved and are working with prosecutors.  WPXI

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Pittsburgh Sakura Project hosted a cherry blossom viewing party that brought locals together to admire the delicate beauty of the blossoms and celebrate new beginnings—attendees enjoyed a day outdoors among blooming trees.  WPXI
  • On Saturday, hundreds of people visited Kennywood to begin its Easter celebration and the park's longest season since 1931. The park opened Kennywood Junction with five family rides and said testing on the nearly complete Steel Curtain ride will start soon (more details to follow).  WTAE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former New York Giants quarterback Drew Lock signed a one-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks—removing another option from the Steelers' efforts as they awaited a decision from Aaron Rodgers. Longtime backup Joe Flacco also signed with the Cleveland Browns, adding to the shifting quarterback landscape.  PennLive
  • Steelers officials said they are confident that Aaron Rodgers will sign after he arranged a visit to Pittsburgh three weeks ago and kept steady contact after league meetings in Palm Beach. The team plans to target top defensive line and wide receiver prospects in the NFL Draft (less than two weeks away) and hold a backup quarterback option (possibly Kirk Cousins) if needed.  PennLive
