  • Ruckus Cafe will open its second location downtown at 625 Liberty Ave., a space known as EQT Plaza, this summer pending permit and build out approvals – the co-owners, Christine Rauktis and Daryl Kuczynski, said they chose downtown to address local demand for coffee and breakfast offerings.  WPXI

CRIME NEWS

  • Pittsburgh Police reported that at least eight car break-ins occurred in the Banksville area overnight on April 8 when unlocked vehicles had items stolen — Councilwoman Theresa Kail Smith has called for a hearing on crime while police increase their patrols in the area.  KDKA

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new guide to Pittsburgh concerts lists live shows scheduled from April through early July and provides details on dates, venues & headlining acts like the outdoor event at Stage AE on April 29 and Record Store Day on April 12.   • The Charity Randall Theatre opened its doors to Pitt Stages' spring production of Shakespeare’s 'As You Like It', a musical adaptation with songs by Shaina Taub and Laurie Woolery that runs from April 4 to April 13. Director Tom Pacio designed the stage with local nods to Pittsburgh culture—using team colors and familiar symbols—to create an ensemble piece that highlights education and community.  The Pitt News

  • A Pittsburgh homeless education group asked state and local officials to preserve American Rescue Plan funding for homeless children and youth after federal cuts threatened support. The Homeless Children's Education Fund—serving nearly 3,500 kids in Allegheny County—is urging action as the Department of Education reconsiders extending the funding.  CBS Pittsburgh

  • The Braddock Police Department will close and join with the Eastern Regional Mon Valley Police Department — a change that combines local police services — as part of planned adjustments.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey honored 25 newly naturalized citizens from 21 countries today — he shook every person’s hand and congratulated them during a ceremony that marked a new step in their journey to citizenship.  WTAE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Pat McAfee’s 'Big Night AHT' at PPG Paints Arena featured celebrities and large charity donations as games and surprise mini-concerts delighted fans. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, Penguins player Sidney Crosby, and other sports figures joined in a game that awarded $2 million to a fan (with additional giveaways throughout the show).  WPXI
