- ➤ This weekend in Pittsburgh, residents can join a range of events including a community cleanup at Lake Elizabeth, a beer festival with tastings, art shows, charity rides and pet celebrations. - ➤ A billboard in western Pennsylvania is promoting a memorial fundraiser set for July 12 to honor Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief who was shot while shielding his family during a rally last summer. Sponsored by No Offseason Entertainment — Corey's Cruise supports the event, which will include a motorcycle ride and concert with proceeds going to local churches — first responders. WTAE

- ➤ On Tuesday the Pittsburgh Planning Commission approved the demolition of four buildings on Penn Avenue to allow the Heinz History Center in the Strip District to expand—this project will add a theater, exhibit space, and classrooms. The center owns the buildings used for storage and exhibit preparation—demolition has not been scheduled yet. WTAE
- ➤ Boaz Frankel and Brooke Barker changed an empty downtown storefront into the 'You Are Here' installation that shows a tropical rainforest scene and a replica of an old department store window using local postcards and artifacts—funded by a downtown Placemaking Grant. - ➤ A Carnegie Mellon University student, Jayson Ma, had his visa revoked by the government on April 9th—he is one of two current students to get such a call while at least five recent graduates received similar news. WPXI
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Pittsburgh announced that residents will have a yard debris curbside collection and free mulch giveaway on April 26. Residents should place yard waste in brown paper bags and bundled branches by 6 AM—then head to the Pittsburgh Zoo Overflow Parking Lot at 7 AM to pick up mulch while supplies last—following the city’s guidelines. - ➤ The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted three players for pre-draft visits on Wednesday—Omarion Hampton from North Carolina, Derrick Harmon from Oregon, and Ollie Gordon from Oklahoma State. Team officials used the meetings to evaluate prospects ahead of the draft. PennLive
- ➤ Fans are upset because the commemorative Bucco Bricks that supported the Roberto Clemente Foundation were removed from PNC Park during renovations and some were later found discarded at a recycling center—Pirates said the damaged bricks were the third set and will be honored by a new, permanent display though no timeline is set.
