  • Ambulance chiefs in West Deer and Foxwall have joined a state study to explore a merger or shared management that could boost response times in Indiana Township and nearby communities—community input may help shape protocols over the coming months.  The Tribune-Review
  • Kennywood will open its 128th season on Saturday, April 18 at 11 a.m. in West Mifflin (Pa.) with Celebrate Kennywood Weekends running until May 10 as new food spots and ride milestones add themed treats for local guests.  WPXI

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A brownfield in Swisshelm Park will become a solar farm powering four East End schools (Allderdice and Linden). The URA will consider a 25-year lease with Capital Good Fund today, with the solar array set to operate in 2028 and save PPS $2.6 million in electricity costs.  The Tribune-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The McKeesport-Duquesne Bridge reopened at 5 p.m. Tuesday after upgrades that began March 14; the bridge remains limited to one lane in each direction and its sidewalk and Route 837 ramp are still closed, with drivers advised to follow a detour until further notice.  WPXI
  • Pittsburgh is launching its $16.3M annual street paving project this week near its NFL Draft focus area, with officials saying the work will improve road conditions before the event (traffic detours may occur).  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A housing project will convert a defunct steel mill site in Hazelwood into new homes. Robots already roam the grounds along the Monongahela River — residents will move in soon.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Preparations for the NFL draft are underway with work starting this weekend at Point State Park — Pittsburgh officials, led by Mayor O’Connor, have set up enhanced security with 18 police agencies, the FBI and Homeland Security as they expect 500,000 to 700,000 fans.  CBS Pittsburgh
  • Steelers Country — a 12,000 sqft interactive fan destination — will open at Point State Park starting Thursday, April 23 and run through Saturday, April 25. The free pop-up will offer live shows, interactive exhibits and retail experiences for Steelers fans, with a ribbon-cutting planned on April 22.  WPXI
  • The fountain at Point State Park soared to nearly 130 feet on Tuesday, spraying water over park visitors as NFL Draft festivities approach. This marks a lively return after a dry summer.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
