- ➤ The Big K Morning Show released Big K Hour 01 — an episode that explains the Pirates’ new catchphrase "Hoist the Cone" for local fans. This Pittsburgh production gives insight on the phrase’s origin and its impact on the community. KDKA

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Upper St. Clair High School students raised over $100K in a seven-week contest to support blood cancer research. Led by juniors Sophie Hicks and Thomas Garces, the Panther Paws for a Cause team collected $100,623 and were honored at the Blood Cancer United Grand Finale on March 28. WPXI
- ➤ North Hills senior Carter Schram received a full tuition scholarship to Robert Morris University on March 25, easing college debt concerns as he pursues accounting this fall. The 18-year-old from West View earned an associate degree in high school and credits supportive teachers (his achievement continues a North Hills tradition). The Tribune-Review

- ➤ The Department of Public Works announced that East Smithfield Street near Antonelli Drive in Elizabeth Township will close at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 20 for culvert and roadway repairs + traffic will be detoured along local streets until the project ends in June. Allegheny County
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dozens of dogs received free health care at HARP's canine wellness fair Tuesday in Homewood (from HARP and Humane World for Animals), with owners lined up for shots, microchips and food to help keep pets healthy. WTAE
- ➤ Degree Wellness Fox Chapel opened on March 21 at 3405 Harts Run Road in Indiana Township and now offers high-tech treatments such as cryotherapy, IV, and red light therapy for clients 16+; high school sweethearts Dan and Erika Scherling run the studio (staffed by nurses). The Tribune-Review
- ➤ A study published March 27 showed that Pitt researchers' BiliSeq test nearly doubled bile duct cancer detection accuracy to almost 90%, improving early diagnosis and treatment pathways at UPMC for patients with high-risk conditions (PSC). The Pitt News
