  • Pittsburgh's North Shore buzzed on Saturday as fans celebrated a Pirates walk-off win and checked out The Plaza (a new space serving fried chicken, ice cream, donuts, games and concerts near PNC Park) ahead of the NFL draft. Families said they plan to return for its kid-friendly setting.  WTAE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Gov. Josh Shapiro has pushed for more school funding to help under-resourced schools raise test scores since 2023, while critics question if the funding will be enough to impact performance.  Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
  • Baldwin High School was named a National Banner Unified Champion School by Special Olympics on Mar. 27 to honor its unified bocce and track teams that bring students together. HEALTH NEWS

  • UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh is building a new heart institute for advanced pediatric and select adult cardiac care at an $85 million investment (50,000 sqft). Its first two floors will open in June while a top-floor rehab gym and cardiac clinic will open in 2027.  WTAE
  • Humotech, a Pittsburgh-based medtech company, is launching its first mobile clinic this summer to let amputees test prosthetic foot options in real-time; the innovation follows years of research and clinical studies – including collaborations with Veterans Affairs – that aim to improve prosthetic fitting for better patient outcomes.  WTAE
