CRIME NEWS

  • Allegheny County police are investigating a shooting early Sunday morning in Wilkinsburg when a man was found inside a residence on the 500 block of North Avenue at 2:40 a.m. with gunshot wounds (he remains in critical but stable condition).  The Tribune-Review
  • A man was shot inside a home on North Avenue in Wilkinsburg around 2:40 a.m. Sunday—police reported he sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition.  WTAE
  • A man was injured in a shooting on Saturday night around 7:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Prospect Drive in East Pittsburgh—he suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder and was taken to the hospital with his condition expected to be okay as police investigate.  WTAE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On March 20, PRT announced plans to cut over 40 bus routes and raise fares by 25 cents to address a $100 million budget gap coming in July — while routes in Oakland will see only minor reductions and more cuts are expected elsewhere. Community hearings will be held in April, May and June to let travelers voice concerns, with the first meeting on April 27 at the David Lawrence Convention Center.  The Pitt News

  • Former Steeler Merril Hoge sat down with host Michelle Wright on a Sunday morning show to share his memories of playing in Pittsburgh and facing health challenges—he explained that taking charge of his journey helped him overcome concussions and cancer. He recalled watching football as a child and detailed how playing with great teammates shaped his career and led him to broadcasting.  WTAE
  • At Colorado’s pro day on April 4, the Steelers sent area scout Kelvin Fisher instead of top coaches to watch quarterback Shedeur Sanders, which signals the team is not very interested—though a visit may still be scheduled later.  PennLive
  • The Pittsburgh Pirates replaced an advertisement on the pad in right field with plans to restore Roberto Clemente’s tribute after fans and Roberto Clemente Jr. expressed upset. Pirates President Travis Williams said the team apologized and will reinstall the logo soon (the temporary change from before the 2022 season was not meant to be permanent) to avoid further controversy (the family was not consulted).  WPXI
  • Roberto Clemente Jr. said he was shocked when he learned that his father’s tribute sign was removed from PNC Park and that he will contact the Pirates about it—he criticized the move as a sign of poor communication on honoring his father’s legacy. The Pirates explained that the sign was temporary and apologized for not informing the Clemente family directly.  WPXI
