CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Today the traveling exhibit 'Lessons from the Tree of Life: Lighting the Path Forward' opens at the University Club Library and runs until April 25. The exhibit displays artifacts chosen by survivors from the 2018 shooting — it will later travel to Cleveland, New York and Miami. NEXTpittsburgh
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ In early March, Pitt service workers represented by SEIU Local 32BJ agreed to a one-year contract that raised pay by $1.25 per hour and granted an extra 3% increase backdated to Jan. 1 along with new benefits like an extra personal holiday, a new overtime rotation, and a quicker grievance process. Both parties agreed to the short-term deal amid concerns over Pitt’s budget and recent hiring freezes. The Pitt News

- ➤ Allegheny County Jail and the Department of Human Services opened Pennsylvania’s first licensed opioid treatment medication unit on March 26th, expanding its MOUD program to include methadone induction for inmates without a prior prescription—linking them to community providers for ongoing care after release. - ➤ Mayor Ed Gainey said his team has made progress on public safety, housing, mobility, and the environment while economic and education goals remain stalled plus he credited a drop in non-fatal shootings and a long-overdue police raise for improved community safety.
