ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A hit-and-run on Mt. Washington Saturday night left Ethan Cardone critically injured with multiple skull fractures and brain bleeds after a black 2009 Lexus RX350 struck him and his dog on Bailey Avenue—Derrick Clark performed CPR that helped save his life while police investigate the incident. - ➤ Kevin McAllister, owner of Kevin’s Deli at Webster Hall, was voted the best Black-owned business in The Pitt News’ survey by local students. He took over the deli in 2004 after working there since 1987 under owner William R. Lee and now serves neighborhood customers with favorites like his steak hoagie, buffalo chicken salad, and Reuben sandwiches. The Pitt News

- ➤ Police reported that after an altercation in which his partner said she was choked, Sterling Smith, 22, allegedly drove off with his 5-month-old child from the Cedar Avenue parking lot in East Allegheny today at around 6:15 p.m., threatened to harm the baby while driving nearly 100 mph, and was tracked to Duquesne and taken into custody—officials confirmed the baby was not hurt. - ➤ Police were called on Feb. 18th to an East Hills home after a 911 call about a shooting and robbery and found 44-year-old Conrad Rozier with a fatal chest wound—surveillance video and evidence tied a dark Ford Explorer registered to Jerome Thompson from North Versailles to the scene, and he now faces multiple charges including criminal homicide. - ➤ The Heinz Chapel Women in the Windows tour celebrates Women’s History Month by guiding groups around stained glass panels on Pitt’s campus that honor women like Abigail Adams, Florence Nightingale, Clara Barton, Emily Brontë, and Elizabeth Fry. Heinz Chapel docent Karen Sebolt chose the theme (Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations) for the event, which will run through the last week of March. The Pitt News

- ➤ Dozens spoke at a public hearing on March 24 where parents said the district had not done its homework ahead of an upcoming vote on closing some public schools — the vote will take place in the coming days. WPXI
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Allegheny County officials formed a 10-member advisory board to watch over the reopened Shuman Center after it was shut in 2021 for major violations. The board, which includes County Executive Sara Innamorato & Controller Corey O’Conner, will make suggestions but cannot set or enforce rules. WPXI
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Dozens of nurses picketed Monday morning at Butler Memorial Hospital, asking for more metal detectors and a larger security team amid contract talks with Independent Health System; local PASNAP president Tammy May said several assaults harmed staff, including a head-butt that sent one nurse to the emergency room and a bite of another. The 499 nurses’ contract expires April 16 — the hospital said it will work with PASNAP to improve safety for patients, staff and visitors. WTAE
